Ware, who missed three games in late October and early November with quad injury, recorded his sixth sack of the season against the Bears, but that came midway through the fourth quarter with the Dallas Cowboys trailing 42-21.
Dallas’ pass rush was nonexistent for most of the night and without Ware, 31, playing at an elite level, it probably won’t get much better over the next three weeks.
Tuesday morning, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was asked if Ware’s decline in production has been because of his injury or because of his age.
“I don’t know, as far as evaluating where he is at his talent level as it regards to age,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “He’s a remarkable athlete. That shouldn’t be the case at all. He should actually be in the prime of his career, candidly, strength-wise, explosion-wise. That’s one of the things we got to, I think, count on is him having more impact in the game as he moves away from his injury.
“He’s feeling better and we should be able to count on better production from him.”
The seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end hasn’t finished a season with less than 11 sacks since his rookie year in 2005.
