The conjuring 2

The conjuring 2, The Conjuring has managed to tap into our primal fears of the unknown and make a boat load of money in the process. James Wan the master mind behind the original SAW movie has managed to once again strike box office gold. The Conjuring has managed in its run at the box office to bring in $95,966,628 according to leading box office reporting service RENTRAK.

According to BoxOfficeMojo the Conjuring was made for $20 million making it another feather in James Wan’s cap proving that he is not a one trick pony.

James Wan is no stranger to making studios filthy rich at the box office. SAW was made for around $1.2million and went on to bring in $103million at the box office. Even more impressive the 7 film SAW franchise that it spawned have made the studio and its stake holders over $400million.

James Wan repeated this success proving that talent always trumps a limited budget with Death Sentence one of the best revenge thrillers since Charles Bronson had a Death Wish.
Not only has The Conjuring made a ton of money at the box office but it has also found its mark with fans who have been for the most part raving about the film. Jason writes;

“The Conjuring” is a remarkable film in that it not only pays tribute to the horror films that came before it, but that it also restores a bit of faith in big studio horror films.  Whereas “Insidious” may have been a divisive film among horror fans, I think “The Conjuring” will find a greater amount of acceptance.
This is the kind of film that will appease those who say “I wish Hollywood would make the films they used to make.”  I highly recommend that you check it out.

Jason’s sentiment seems pretty universal as two other critics on our site made similar comments. Mary writes;
The conjuring is a classic ghost story directed by James Wan who also brought us Saw, Insidious, and Dead Silence. The film pays homage to older ghost movies like The Haunting, The Amityville Horror, The Changeling, Burnt Offerings, and Poltergeist without outright copying any of them.

What makes The Conjuring different is that it focuses not only on the family but the Paranormal investigators. The film has a slow and deliberate build of tension but is never boring.
With the movie having raked in big dollars and attracted lots of fan fare you all know what is next a sequel!.
Toby Emmerich, New Line President, told Variety “that New Line is exploring a potential franchise based on the Warrens’ investigations, which also involved cases that wound up as the movies “The Amityville Horror” and “The Haunting in Connecticut.” “We have Lorraine’s permission and support, and we are working on developing another film.”

Carey and Chad Hayes, the two men who wrote “The Conjuring” are already signed up for a potential sequel.  With James Wan now in charge of the Fast and Furious franchise, it’s not clear what sort of involvement he’ll have in the future of the Warren’s movie career.

James Wan is a popular guy right now so it is not clear when The Conjuring 2 might start filming and honestly I am not sure whether fans want more. It is very hard to repeat the magic of a movie that was intended to be a stand alone ghost story like The Conjuring and turn it into a franchise. That said if anyone can do it James Wan and his team can pull it off.

Up next for James Wan is Insidious 2 which should be pretty polarizing considering how fans either loved or hated the first one. James Wan is also working  on an untitled thriller about a police office who is called in to investigate the death of 5 people who tried to summon a poltergeist.
