Heidi Montag fake break-up

Heidi Montag fake break-up
Heidi Montag fake break-up, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag—the whoriest of the famewhores, the most promotional of the promosexuals, the couple that took Paris Hilton’s famous-for-nothing vocation and turned it into a winking, nonstop enterprise—are careful to say that they have no regrets. Living a fake life for the sake of cameras worked for them for years.

Until it didn’t. They’re broke and living at Spencer’s parents’ beach house in Santa Barbara because of the free rent; Heidi’s body and face are forever changed from plastic surgeries she now wishes she had not gotten; their relationships with friends and family are severely damaged; and they have found themselves largely unemployable, both on camera and off.

We discussed these issues over lunch recently at the couple’s favorite restaurant, Don Antonio’s in West L.A., where I had interviewed them three years earlier when they were at the top of their game with MTV’s docusoap The Hills, working every lever of the celebrity industrial-machine to their advantage.

Things have changed. Spencer spoke definitively: “What we learned is: You can be too famous.”

They first acquired fame in 2006, when The Hills began as a continuation of the channel’s phenomenally successful reality-ish show, Laguna Beach. Heidi was (and played) the roommate of the franchise’s star Lauren Conrad, whom she met at freshman orientation at San Francisco’s Academy of Art University in 2004. Beginning in The Hills’s second season, Spencer was (and played) Heidi’s duplicitous, overbearing, combative, Lauren-hating boyfriend, whom Heidi had met off-camera after season one. They definitely stole the show, with Spencer’s villainy, Heidi’s sad eyes, and Lauren’s fruitless entreaties to keep her friend and get rid of her enemy driving The Hills’s plot.

The glossy celebrity magazines, led by their favorite outlet, Us Weekly, and gossip sites (PerezHilton.com, TMZ, etc.) were interested in the whole cast, but Heidi and Spencer, or “Speidi” as they were also called, milked their fame like none before them. They were photographed everywhere, from the Kentucky Derby to the White House Correspondents Dinner to nightclubs that paid them tens of thousands of dollars to make appearances. Their fighting, breakups, and will-they-or-won’t-they-get-married storyline played out on the show and in Us Weekly (they ended up marrying twice—once in elopement, and once in a big church ceremony on The Hills). But viewers did get the sense that everything was entirely fictional.

(And now that’s confirmed. Did you ever break up? Spencer: “No.” Heidi: “No.” Spencer: “Not for one minute.” Heidi: “We’ve never even been apart.” Which raises a larger point: Everything in this article that could be fact-checked through multiple independent sources, has been.)

Plenty of people, perhaps even a large majority, hated Speidi, their antics, and the Doomsday celebrity culture they embodied. They didn’t care; they clowned their way to the bank, posing wherever they saw, or had set up, a camera.

But what seemed like good fun—staged paparazzi photographs at the supermarket, in Sarah Palin T shirts, dressing up as fellow fame-mongers Jon and Kate Gosselin, and so on—turned dark as The Hills wound down. By the end of 2009 (and the show’s fifth season), their lives seemed insane. Instead of riding bikes, Spencer was holding guns. Heidi’s plastic surgeries gave her a distorted quality, but she vowed to have more. Spencer grew a thick beard, became obsessed with crystals, and was eventually told to leave the series. There were daily updates on gossip sites about them “living in squalor,” publicly feuding with their families, and attacking The Hills producers (or claiming The Hills producers attacked them). By the time they announced they were (fake) splitting, followed by Spencer threatening to release various sex tapes, and Heidi (fake) filing for divorce, it seemed like they had ventured into, at best, Joaquin Phoenix-like, life-as-performance-art notoriety and, at worst, truly bleak Star 80 territory that could end with one or both of them dead.

“We were all getting paid to be people we weren’t for so long that you stop—there’s no line,” Spencer said. “The gauge is gone. The gray area is gone.”

He continued. “We got so deep with how many storylines we had to do to continue the machine.”

“So what was one more fake breakup?” Heidi asked rhetorically.

“At that point, we were pulling our last cards,” Spencer said. “We felt the hot-air balloon losing its gas. And at that stage, our income would be selling the photo that would go along with the divorce.” (But their once-lucrative side business was yielding around $300 per photo in 2010, rather than the $3,000 they used to get.)

What the hell happened? What were they thinking? And where did all the money go?
“We never had any!” said Spencer in response to the money question. Meaning, it went out as quickly as it came in. Spencer estimated they spent $2 million on Heidi’s ill-fated pop-music career, hiring writers, producers, and engineers who worked with Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Lady Gaga. There were lots of clothes, too. “I probably spent a million dollars on suits and fancy clothes,” Spencer said. “My whole million-dollar wardrobe—I would never wear that again. They’re props. Everything we were doing, we were buying props. I bought a big blue monster truck just to drive it on The Hills for an episode. Never drove it again.”

Spencer—who previously appeared on 2005’s short-lived reality series The Princes of Malibu—grew up with privilege and private schools in Los Angeles; Heidi was raised in tiny Crested Butte, Colo., with little money and lots of church. “I should have known growing up and not having any money ever that I should have kept every dollar that I had,” Heidi said. “I thought I was investing in myself and my brand. Like Kim.” As in Kardashian, who came up often during the interview. Heidi continued: “When she buys these clothes, she’s investing in herself. Because she is a big brand and is likeable. I thought I had that potential. My ego got too big. To think I could be someone like that when I was the most hated girl ever.”

Spencer is, for sure, hated by many. And Heidi-and-Spencer together are often hated. But Heidi alone didn’t seem to have the same effect. It’s more likely that people questioned her decision making, which was most conspicuously odd during her plastic-surgery deluge. When The Hills had been on for less than a year, in April 2007, Heidi got breast implants, rhinoplasty, and collagen injections in her lips (and landed on the cover of Us Weekly).

That was nothing. Two and a half years later, she had 10 procedures done in one day: a chin reduction, a brow lift, buttock augmentation, another nose job, another boob job, and more (that time, she was on People’s cover, accompanied by the headline “Addicted to Plastic Surgery”).

“Obviously I wish I didn’t do it,” Heidi said. “I would go back and not have any surgery. It doesn’t help. I got too caught up in Hollywood, being so into myself and my image. I don’t regret anything, but if I could go back, I wouldn’t do it.”

She went on. “I made a lot of wrong decisions too quickly. So many wrong rights and lefts and then you’re just off the road. Things happened so quickly.”

As Heidi recovered from her painful surgeries in November 2009, Spencer was growing increasingly angry at The Hills. He felt they had been mistreated for years. “We were banned from the premieres, banned from the finale parties.

If you’re banned from your own show that you’re supposedly getting on Perez five times a day, it really gives you this feeling of inadequacy,” Spencer said. Heidi, who would film with other castmates, such as Audrina Patridge, said she, too, noticed a difference. “I would film with Spencer and then I would film with Audrina. She would get treated like Meryl Streep and we would get treated like the trash,” she said. (Through his publicist, Adam DiVello, the creator of The Hills, declined to comment for this story.)

Two days after the fifth season of The Hills came to a close, Jersey Shore premiered on MTV. The loud, steroidal, orange, drunk, cloudy-looking, joyful Shore looked like it was portraying a different species from the lustrous, staged, slow-moving Hills. Spencer saw the end was near and tried, in his way, to rally the cast as season six began filming in January 2010.

“I was always, like, ‘Audrina, you hate Kristin [Cavallari]! You guys were just screaming at each other before the cameras turned on! The second the camera turns on, you guys are hugging and being all civil! If you guys just were real, we’d have the No. 1 show on TV!’ The producers would go, ‘Spencer, leave them alone! You can’t do that to the talent!’ ‘Talent? These girls are actresses that are bad actresses! What are you talking about?’” Spencer recalled of one of his pep talks.

His strategy backfired, he said. “It got to the point where producers said, ‘Spencer, you’re not allowed to talk to any of the castmembers anymore about stepping it up and trying to be more entertaining.’”

MTV announced in March 2010 that the sixth season of The Hills would be its last. But it was already over for Spencer. He had gotten into a huge fight with a producer named Sara Mast, whom he said tried to get him to cause his fellow castmember and sister, Stephanie, who has had on-again, off-again alcohol and drug problems, to “hit rock bottom.” In his version, Mast tried to get him to punch Stephanie. “Her exact quote: ‘That Snooki effect,’” Spencer said, referring to a Jersey Shore episode in which castmember Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi was hit by a fellow bar patron.

“That’s when I snapped,” Spencer said. “To the point when I said—and this is when the producers got scared of me—‘You want me to punch my sister in the face? Are you trying to get me to kill you?’ I didn’t say, ‘I’m killing you.’ If I did, MTV would have had me arrested.”

A source close to production who requested anonymity, and is no friend of Spencer’s, confirmed his version of what caused the fight, but also added that Spencer was, in fact, quite scary about it. Through her agent, Sara Mast declined to comment for this story. Creator DiVello’s PR representative was told specifically about this claim and did not respond. MTV would not comment either.

As their good sense and livelihoods degenerated, Heidi and Spencer weren’t able to stop each other’s missteps.

“We were living each other’s mistakes—everything we were doing, in retrospect, was a mistake. The second we continued on our quest for fame was a mistake.” Spencer said. “This isn’t a business. That was the big thing I didn’t get: Reality TV is not a career. Anyone who says, ‘Oh, you can have a career in reality’—that is a lie.”

Paris Hilton’s recent bomb of a reality series, The World According to Paris, proves this theory, according to them.

Heidi said, “We thought it’d be huge!”

Spencer said: “Paris Hilton created fame for nothing. The fact that only 400,000 people tuned into her premiere? We’re Paris Hilton fans.” He continued: “She didn’t make all these surgery mistakes, or crystal mistakes. She didn’t do any of that. But here she is. Her career stopped.”

As have theirs, for the most part. Heidi, who was in her late teens when she was cast on The Hills and will turn 25 in September, has been appearing on VH1’s Famous Food, a reality competition in which celebrities compete to become a partner in a restaurant. When those sorts of opportunities come around, she said, “I’m there.” She also still gets invited to host Las Vegas parties sometimes. “I have the most fun ever.”

Spencer, soon to turn 28, is more at sea. He applied for a job as a reality TV agent and was told he would “polarize the talent;” he’s toyed with going back to USC to finish his political science degree, but, “What real job—what political world—would want Spencer Pratt, with the stigma I’ve attached to my name?” Still, he would basically do anything for money: “If they called me right now and said, ‘We want you to be on Jersey Shore and be a bully, and we’ll bring your paycheck back,’ I’d say, ‘Get me on a plane to Italy.’ ”

In Santa Barbara, Spencer said, “It’s like what 70-year-olds do. We’re reading a lot of books.” And: “Now all we eat are tacos and burritos. Whereas we used to eat at Cut.”

“We’re watching movies,” Heidi said. “I do a lot of laundry. A lot of laundry. We’re training our dogs, so I’m cleaning up less poop inside, which is great.”

They can’t really go out, they said. “The new thing is to take a picture of someone just to tweet it—even if they hate me. Like, ‘Look at this idiot I just saw,’ ” Spencer said. And Heidi has cut herself off from her family, particularly her mother, since The Hills. “I don’t even want to talk about that,” she said. “I have Spencer and my puppies. That’s my support system.”

As for what the future brings, Heidi and Spencer have no idea. “I have a lot of crystal balls,” Spencer said. “And they don’t tell me anything.”

“I didn’t see,” he continued. “I thought when this was all over, I could get on an interview and say, ‘It was all entertainment.’ I thought I was the Wizard of Oz, like, I’m the guy behind the curtain.”

But it seemed like you did have control over it, I said—you weren’t wrong.

“We were!” Heidi said, sounding almost enthusiastic.

“I was! Totally wrong,” Spencer agreed.

“We were wrong,” Heidi repeated.

“Very wrong,” Spencer said, one last time as they laughed together.

Kardashian LaChapelle Christmas card 2013

Kardashian LaChapelle Christmas card 2013
Kardashian LaChapelle Christmas card 2013, Kardashians leave no stones unturned in making their annual Christmas card as larger than life as possible, but for this Christmas, they might have gone a tad overboard as it cost $250,000 for their latest move of self-glorification; obviously the Kardashian Klan didn’t shell out a penny for it. You can see big hair and high fashion but the card shows no Lamar, Scott, Kanye or Rob. Kim Kardashian was more than excited to see the concept of the new card, as she mentioned trying new things was something that excited her the most. Before the shoot, the entire family was seen sitting around in their robes and jammies, discussing the previous Christmas holidays, presents and much, sipping their favorite champagne throughout the time.

The Drama

The off-beat or rather intricate Christmas card shows us the five sisters Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner along with their parents Kris Jenner and Bruce Jenner. They are seen in a room, which is filled with money signs and dollar bills. Mason and Penelope, Kourtney Kardashian’s two kids are also seen in the picture as they stand on a big pile of celebrity magazines. Bruce, on the other hand, can be seen enclosed in a unique glass case. No matter what few say about this card, it would certainly not be wrong to say that Kardashian’s Christmas Card 2013 is weird in many respects.

The Brainchild of David

It was the photographer David LaChapelle who decided the theme even though the mother of the girls Kris, asked the three elder Kardashian siblings to come up with a theme. At the end of the day, they decide to leave the creative to the professional photographer. LaChapelle told in a meeting with the Kardashians that he liked picking higher art and mixing it up the latest pop culture. The men of the family were absent from the Christmas card, which was obviously a bummer. Apparently Jenner didn’t like the idea of not including the men either but at the final moment he was included in the shot thanks to Kris realizing they were hurting his sentiments. In nutshell, the new Kardashian Christmas Card did have its share of drama as well.

What doesn’t look right about this year’s Christmas card is its weird Vegas style, circus and casino theme, which doesn’t seem to go well with the rest of the things in picture, and of course the festive theme of Christmas. But, after all, Kardashians love to do things differently, and their X-mas card is not exception either!

Lamar Odom DUI arrest

Lamar Odom DUI arrest
Lamar Odom DUI arrest, E! News confirms that the athlete entered a no contest plea Monday morning in exchange for 36 months of probation.

He was also ordered to pay $1,814 in fines and complete an alcohol education program by June 9.

Odom's license is still suspended after he refused to take a Breathalyzer test at the time of his arrest.
Odom's attorney Richard Hutton entered the plea on his client's behalf and set a separate DMV hearing regarding the status of his license.

In October, Khloé Kardashian Odom's husband plead not guilty to one charge of driving under the influence stemming from his Aug. 30 arrest.

Based on a report taken at the time of his arrest, the basketball player was driving in an erratic manner at 50 miles per hour (the speed limit is 65).

Police conducted a traffic stop and pulled him over around the Coldwater Canyon off-ramp on the 101 freeway. Odom was identified by his California driver's license and was administered a field sobriety test.

He was unable to perform the field sobriety test then subsequently said "no" when the officer asked him to do a chemical test.

Lamar Odom was released from jail at 8:33 a.m. the morning following his arrest after posting $15,000 bond.
But despite the recent drama surrounding the married couple, E! News has learned that there's no truth to the divorce rumors.

"Khloé is in no rush to make any decision," a source told us.

And things are definitely looking up for Odom.

The former NBA star is currently working on a major career comeback after spending weeks at a Rhode Island training facility.

Khloe Kardashian Lamar Odom break-up rumors

Khloe Kardashian Lamar Odom break-up rumors
Khloe Kardashian Lamar Odom break-up rumors, Former Los Angeles Clippers forward Lamar Odom's year just got more tumultuous.

According to ESPN, the 14-year NBA veteran and Khloe Kardashian, his wife of four years, have reportedly filed for divorce:

After months of speculation, Khloe Kardashian is ending her four-year marriage to former NBA player Lamar Odom.

The reality TV star filed for divorce Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences. She also wants her last name restored to Kardashian from Kardashian Odom.

The filing comes after Odom pleaded no contest Monday to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge.

The 34-year-old athlete was arrested in August after his Mercedes-Benz SUV was seen weaving on a Los Angeles freeway.

There were tabloid rumors of the couple's potential breakup in late 2012. In September 2013, Odom's reported drug habits surfaced, and things began to deteriorate further.

Days after Odom was arrested on suspicion of DUI, TMZ reported that Kardashian had kicked him out of the house and vowed not to bring him back until he completed rehab. A week later, Odom checked himself out of rehab just a day after checking in, according to People.com.

A report from NESN stated that Odom spent more than $50,000 on cocaine over the past three years.

Odom's father, Joe, told RadarOnline in late September that the Kardashian family was to blame for all of Lamar's problems. But the former Sixth Man of the Year quickly squashed that notion in a tweet, saying the Kardashians were family and did "nothing but protect and love" him.

Odom's legal problems continued on Dec. 9, when he pleaded "no contest" to one count of driving under the influence. He was sentenced to three years probation, according to CBS Los Angeles.

After one of the least productive seasons of his career with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011-12, Odom enjoyed a bounce-back of sorts, establishing himself as a solid defender and rebounder with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2012-13. In 82 games, he averaged 10.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks per 36 minutes, all marks that were close to the best of his career.

He remains unsigned this season, and his recent guilty plea for a DUI certainly won't help. After adding divorce onto his long list of problems, one can only hope that Odom is able to get whatever help he needs moving forward.

Khloe Kardashian wedding 3.07 million viewers
Khloe Kardashian wedding 3.07 million viewers, Among the 3.07 million viewers tuned in for Sunday's The Wedding: Keeping Up with the Kardashians special on the E! Network? Khloe Kardashian!

Kardashian thanked her fans ("Dash dolls") on her blog today for the special's record-breaking ratings (twice the amount of viewers as the show's 2008 premiere), and shared her own thoughts on the two-hour special.

"It was both incredible and stressful reliving those two weeks," she says of her shocking decision to wed Lamar Odom within weeks of their meeting. The reality star, 25, and L.A. Laker Odom, 30, tied the knot on Sept. 27 at the L.A. mansion of music mogul Irving Azoff.

Most painful to watch: her fight with stepdad Bruce Jenner, who initially disapproved of the quickie union and the haphazard way she broke the news. Thank goodness for the cameras, though: "I'm grateful for having taped it because I got to see my actions and learn from them," she says. "I have apologized to Bruce hundreds of times and we are completely fine, but . . . it made me feel guilty all over again."

Now for the good stuff: "Just seeing me and Lamar together," she writes, "When I watched that, I couldn't stop smiling."

And the newlywed was also touched by little brother Rob. "I also loved seeing how much Rob defends me and loves me," she says. "He is an amazing brother and I'm so lucky to have him."

Kate Middleton wedding ring

Kate Middleton wedding ring
Kate Middleton wedding ring, When Prince William proposed to longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton on holiday in Kenya last month, his late mother, the beloved Princess Diana played a role -- she provided the ring.

Prince William proposed to Middleton using the18-carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring that belonged to his mother.

So what does the famous ring look like?

It's a dazzling oval, 18-carat blue sapphire and white diamond ring. Diana, who died in 1997, chose the elegant cluster ring after becoming engaged to Charles in 1981.

"This was my way of making sure that my mother didn't miss out on today," William said as the couple posed for photographers in the state apartments at St. James' Palace.

According to royal watcher and CBS News contributor Neil Sean, William holds his mother up like an icon but admits that "I just want to make sure I keep her memory alive and all the good things and good work that she did."

Prince William did his proposing the right way- he asked Kate's father for his daughter's hand before proposing to her. And he admitted to being nervous about popping the question. "I was not sure she would say yes, " he said. "How could I be ? "

Kate Middleton dress Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen

Kate Middleton dress Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen
Kate Middleton dress Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, As it turns out, all the McQueen rumors were true; Kate Middleton wed today in a stunning long-sleeved creation by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

Burton and Middleton worked closely on the design of the dress, referencing English traditions and signatures of the McQueen brand. From the descriptions on the Official Royal Wedding Website, it is obvious that this design made full use of the unbelievable technique and skill of the McQueen atelier.

Of the choice, the official site says:

Miss Middleton chose British brand Alexander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing. Miss Middleton wished for her dress to combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterises Alexander McQueen’s work..

The dress is made from hand-cut English lace, French Chantilly lace, and ivory and white satin gazar. The lace appliques were handmade by the Royal School of Needlework using a technique called Carrickmacross that originated in Ireland in the 1820s. The lace workers washed their hands every 30 minutes and replaced their needles every three hours to ensure that the lace remained pure white. The flowers designs in the lace are of actual flowers: rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock.

If you thought Kate Middleton looked curvier than usual, you’d be correct. The silhouette featured padding at the hips, as a reference to traditional Victorian corsetry as well as a signature of the most dramatic McQueen looks. 58 gazar and organza covered buttons ran up the back of the dress, no wonder Middleton needed help getting dressed this morning.

On top Middleton wore a tiara belonging to the Queen herself. The Cartier “halo” tiara was made in 1936 and given to Queen Elizabeth on her 18th birthday as a gift from her mother. Middleton’s veil is made of ivory silk tulle – nothing too heavy when she’s got to show off a vintage Cartier tiara.

Classic, demure, and elegant the dress is sure to please both the public and the fashion critics. WWD has already scooped up quotes from the fashion crowd about Middleton’s choice.

Karl Lagerfeld said “She is very elegant. The dress is classic and goes very well in the Westminster decor. It almost reminds me of (Queen) Elizabeth’s wedding, the royal weddings in the Fifties. The proportion of the train is good. The lace is very pretty. I like the veil a lot.”

If it’s a hit with Karl, I’m sure it’s a hit with everyone. He has very, very high standards.

Royal wedding more than 24.5 million UK viewers
Royal wedding more than 24.5 million UK viewers, Prince William and Kate Middleton's Royal Wedding was watched by more than 24 million terrestrial TV viewers in the UK, according to overnight estimates from industry body Barb.

The BBC achieved a large share of the UK viewing figures for Friday's (April 29) ceremony, with a peak figure of 20 million tuning in to the corporation's broadcast of the Westminster Abbey service.

More than 34 million people caught at least some of the Royal Wedding coverage through the BBC, including on its iPlayer service, reports BBC News.

Sky News said it had a peak of 661,000 viewers at the start of the wedding ceremony, while BBC Two, Channel 4 and Five only made up 1 per cent of the audience as the nuptials began.

William and Kate's service is now in the all-time top 10 programmes in the UK, but drew less viewers than the 1966 World Cup Final (32.3 million) and Princess Diana's funeral in 1997 (32.1 million).

HBO's Getting On

HBO's Getting On
HBO's Getting On, Though receiving most of its attention because of big, headline-making, awards-winning dramas and hip, zeitgeist-y comedies, HBO has admirably stuck to producing a few offbeat, decidedly niche shows every now and then. They tend to live glorious little lives on the network before being quietly put down after a few seasons. These would be shows like Eastbound & Down (though I never liked that overly aggressive show, it certainly had its share of devoted fans), the modern masterpiece Enlightened, and now Getting On, a doleful little comedy you all should be watching.

The show’s third episode aired last night, an alternately awkward, bawdy, and humane installment that further confirmed what an oddball gem this series is. Set on the women’s floor of a hospital’s geriatric extended care wing, Getting On has an inevitable air of sadness about it. And, if we’re honest, an ickiness too. Watching old people’s bodies breaking down, their systems irreversibly failing, is, well, depressing and a bit gross, a fact that the show isn’t afraid to address and mine for humor. But it’s never cruel about it either. While not quite as emotionally (or spiritually) concerned as Enlightened was, Getting On is still a comedy that knows when to take its subject matter seriously, to be generous of spirit instead of simply snide or broadly silly.

Part of that appealingly calibrated tone is likely owed to the fact that this is an adaptation of a British TV show—a particular strain of “Britcom” (ugh, sorry, I’ll never say that again) that excels at balancing sharp, oftentimes bitter humor with judiciously meted out moments of pathos. But credit also goes to the show’s American adapters, Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer, and to the terrific cast, especially Alex Borstein and Niecy Nash as weary nurses and Laurie Metcalf as their increasingly unhinged supervisor. It’s quite the team, with both writers and actors keeping things natural and understated without losing the strangeness and occasional absurdity of the humor. If you’re not yet convinced that you should be watching this perfectly crafted series, here are a few more (hopefully) enticing reasons.

Old people get to be funny too. While being brutally honest about the ugly realities of aging, Getting On allows its elderly patients to make the jokes rather than solely be the butt of them. Possible soon-to-be Oscar-nominee June Squibb (Nebraska) had a caustic, profanity-laden guest role last week, and this week saw grizzled Harry Dean Stanton receving a blow job from little old Ann Morgan Guilbert, right in the lounge for all to see. Commendably, the joke was on the staff’s horrified reaction, not the old people having the audacity to be sexual.

Laurie Metcalf’s face. This woman’s face can do a lot. It can go from pinched anger to wide-grinned mania in a fraction of a second. And Metcalf is deft at using it, pushing us away with some grotesque grimace or earning our pity with some wiggly look of despair. It’s just a very good face, and it’s well worth looking at for a half-hour every Sunday night.

Alex Borstein does something new. Fans of MADtv and Family Guy have long loved Borstein the comedienne, but here she gets to show off some subtler and darker talents. Her character, sadsack nurse Dawn, is frequently punished and embarrassed—she’s clueless about men, she’s apparently really bad at her job—but the sensitive writing and Borstein’s thoughtful performance manage to rescue her before she tips into complete, cartoonish patheticness. The word “revelation” is way overused when writing about acting, but this is an exciting change of pace for this sneakily versatile actress.

It just feels real. The unshowy acting, the naturalistic writing, the dull gray production design, and the general lack of makeup and kind lighting lend the show a credibility that makes The Office, at least the American The Office, seem like Kabuki. There's something about Getting On’s realness that's thrilling, even quietly revolutionary in its own way. Again with the overused cliche words, but Getting On is almost fearless in its soberness, its honesty.

I urge you to give the show a shot. It certainly might be too low-key or squirm-inducing for some people’s tastes, but I’m pretty sensitive to “awkward” comedy myself—I had to turn off Borat after about ten minutes—and I’m able to watch this show and enjoy it. I suspect that, if they give it a chance, many people who haven’t yet watched the series, because of Sunday night TV overcrowding or the show’s barely existent marketing, will enjoy it as much as I do. Hopefully enough people will start tuning in to give the show a second season. We don’t want another The Comeback situation, do we? So, come on, do your part.

Kim Kardashian Kanye West wedding

Kim Kardashian Kanye West wedding
Kim Kardashian Kanye West wedding, American television personality Kim Kardashian reportedly wants a wedding dress similar to that of Kate Middleton.

The 31-year-old Duchess of Cambridge wore a gown by British designer Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen's fashion house.

''Kim is absolutely obsessed with everything Kate and William do. She considers her own family 'American Royalty'. Kim loves Kate's style and while she is planning on several gowns for her big day, she wants the one for the ceremony to look something like Kate's dress. The brief is demure princess and she'll also wear a tiara," a source told Grazia magazine.

The 33-year-old Keeping Up with the Kardashians star and fiance Kanye West, are also are planning to sit on "golden thrones" during their reception.

"They think it'd be really cool to have gold thrones to sit on during the reception. They've already got a Buckingham Palace-themed room in their new home, which they're using as inspiration," the insider added.

The 36-year-old singer, who welcomed daughter North with the Kardashian, had also compared her to royal baby Prince George.

"My daughter is in a position of a level of royalty like the Prince and Princess in London," he earlier said during a chat with Power 105's The Breakfast Club.

Previously it was reported that West, famous for his jewellery and ostentatious lifestyle, views the Duchess of Cambridge as a fashion icon, and wants Kardashian to follow her elegant English style.

"Kanye has been urging Kim to tone down her make-up and style her hair in a more conservative style, like Kate," a source told The Daily Star. "And it's not just Kate's regal look that Kanye wants Kim to mimic. He's also told her that she could learn a thing or two about poise and sophistication from Kate.

Kim Kardashian Kris Humphries divorce after 72 days

Kim Kardashian Kris Humphries divorce after 72 days
Kim Kardashian Kris Humphries divorce after 72 days, A year and seven months after filing for divorce, the final stamp was a long time coming for the 32-year-old reality star who is expecting a daughter with Kanye West in the next month – place your due date and baby weight bets here, sweepstake fans.

After a measly 72-day marriage (you can do the sums) Kim was starting to worry that she’d still be married when she gave birth.

We know this because we’ve seen a preview from upcoming episodes of Keeping Up With The Kardashians where Kim sobs and admits she’s scared the legal wrangling will drag on so long that she’ll still be married to Humphries when she becomes a mum (or mom, if you are Kim). And that, we’d all probably agree, is not ideal.

Great news then that Kim is a free woman, especially amidst rumours that Kanye is waiting in wings to put a ring on it. And the news might explain why Kim tweeted a picture of some pretty white roses with the caption "Always making me feel special for no reason." Except it's not really 'no' reason is it, Kim? This is big news! Unravel the bunting and pull a party popper, you are free!

After a week that saw the pregnant star looking a vision of something we'll call 'angel-ness' in white Lanvin at her Beverly Hills baby shower, and a more chilled lunch date with her sister Kourtney and niece Penelope, KK has more good stuff to celebrate. For she's a jolly fellow, for she's a jolly good fellow, etc, etc.

Kris and Kim initially came to a divorce agreement in April but things were dragged on, and on, and on, when the basketball star pushed for an annulment based on claims that Kim only married him as a publicity stunt. Oh do keep up.

Now a Los Angeles judge has confirmed (probably with a strike of his gavel, we like to think) that the pair, who married in a bumper two-part E! special but split 72 days later in 2011, came to an out-of-court settlement.

So all that worrying was unnecessary Kim, you are officially a single lady and you still will be when you become a baby momma. Unless of course Kanye pulls something diamond-shaped out of the proverbial bag between now and b-day... Oh go on Kanye, give us a happy ending.

Kim Kardashian Vera Wang wedding dress 2011

Kim Kardashian Vera Wang wedding dress 2011
Kim Kardashian Vera Wang wedding dress 2011, Now that Kim Kardashian has made it public that Vera Wang is her designer of choice for her wedding gown — despite all that brouhaha about confidentiality and keeping it top secret in the manner of Kate Middleton — those of us who care about the Kardashians can begin speculating about what Kim’s dress would look like.

Would she wear white or cream or one of the gray tulle concoctions from Vera Wang’s bridal fall 2011 lineup? Is she a princess bride, the kind that wants a gown that is as pouffy and layered as a seven-tier wedding cake? Would she want sleeves like Duchess Catherine or would she want something off shoulder with a long train like Prince Andrew’s alleged runaway bride Charlene Wittstock? Is she the type to wear something thoroughly modern like Kate Moss’s John Galliano wedding dress? Would she defy tradition and wear black or something super slinky in a leopard print?

Strapless gown with mermaid hem from Vera Wang

Judging from her past red carpet outings and her inclination towards dresses that flatter that famous figure, it doesn’t seem wise or flattering for her to wear the kind of big gowns that brides on Say Yes To The Dress die for. I imagine her in something more form-fitting to accentuate her curves, and for some bridal flourish maybe volume around the hem as is the case in Vera Wang’s strapless dress with a mermaid hem (right).

Bridal dress with beadwork on the bodice from Vera Wang

Kim once wore a stunning Marchesa cocktail dress with gorgeous detailing and beading on the bodice. Should she want something like that, Vera Wang has a beautiful dress with exquisite beadwork all across the bodice. The dress flares into a simple skirt with just the right volume (left). She could also go for the ruched asymmetrical neckline with a pleated chiffon train. Kim’s been known to wear one-shoulder cocktail dresses and evening gowns, so this one’s is not out of the running

Keeping Up With the Kardashians

Keeping Up With the Kardashians
Keeping Up With the Kardashians, It was only a matter of time before Keeping Up With The Kardashians lost its verve and became yet another stale reality show.

It’s actually a bit astonishing that the ratings have stayed so high for so long, probably bolstered by the family’s ubiquity in the tabloids and the news. Nevertheless ratings dropped off significantly this past season and there is no reason they should recover.

They really have Kim Kardashian‘s engagement to Kanye West to thank for keeping them at all relevant, but that’s not going to last for much longer.

Page Six reports that E! has just commissioned a new reality series focused on rich kids in Beverly Hills, like a real life 90210. The network is reportedly looking to move on from the Kardashians, realizing that the show is  fading, and they’re concentrating on youth and excess.

Apparently, the self-titled ‘Rich Kids Of Instagram’ will be getting their own show, focusing on their ‘champagne-filled lives’, full of partying, sex, and gossip. The show will be titled ‘Rich Kids Of Beverly Hills’, and will basically follow five rich Los Angeles youngsters.

And if that’s not enough, one of those people featured on the show will be Magic Johnson‘s son, E.J. Johnson. If you’re still not psyched by the show’s prospects at this point, just think of the fact that after years and years of torture, we could finally be relieved of the Kardashians – at least, on television.

A source even told Page Six, “The Kardashians are expensive to produce and their audience appeal is waning. ‘Rich Kids’ are a sexier bunch.” No, duh.

The Kardashian never had audience ‘appeal’, it had people watching to laugh at them. Nobody actually *likes* the Kardashians, even the people who watch the show. And lately, they’ve been extremely overexposed, and without reason. It’s not like they’re movie stars or musicians who have a reason for promoting themselves – the Kardashians are simply just there, and they’re starting to piss everybody off more than they usually do.
What do you guys think? Would you prefer watching this Rich Kids show as opposed to Keeping Up With the Kardashians? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Kim Zolciak twins

Kim Zolciak twins
Kim Zolciak twins, Kim Zolciak gave birth to twins on November 25.  And despite gaining nearly 50 pounds while pregnant, she’s already back to a size four and her figure has snapped back into pre-pregnancy shape in record time.

Needless to say, the 35-year-old reality star has been getting a ton of queries into how she managed to get her post-baby body back in such record time. But the new mom of Kaia and Kane herself seems mystified by where all the baby weight went.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star responded to her fans Wednesday night posting on her Twitter account “to answer the questions I keep getting, Kane weighed 6lbs 14oz and Kaia weighed 6lbs even!!! Almost 13 lbs of baby! I gained almost 50lbs!”

She also revealed that she finally has a child who directly resembles her, tweeting “Baby Kane is my twin!!! Yahooo! 1 out of the 4 babies looks like me!! Kaia is her daddy all day loooong! Their lips are so pouty and pink.”
Kim shared a selfie last week of her trim bod and nearly flat post-twins tummy last week.  She’s now the mother of SIX kids and her body looks incredible.

Kim Zolciak wedding 11/11/11

Kim Zolciak wedding 11/11/11
Kim Zolciak wedding 11/11/11, It really was her lucky day. The sun shone as Kim Zolciak wed Atlanta Falcons player Kroy Biermann on 11/11/11 — an anniversary date Biermann won't be able to forget.

"Beautiful weather! Beautiful day!! I'm walking on a cloud and I'm so grateful," the Real Housewives of Atlanta star posted on her Twitter account shortly before her marriage.

"I want to Thank all of u tweethearts for all the congrats & blessing for our special day tomorrow I read everyone & it means so much! Love u," she posted last night, along with, "Gooood night!!! I'm sooo exhausted yet so excited!!! #mrsbiermann."

The couple, who have a 5-month-old son, Kroy Jagger Jr., said their vows around 4:30 p.m. at their Atlanta home.

But Zolciak wasn't the only one tweeting her excitement. Biermann, her hubby-to-be, also wrote, "Thank you everyone for your early congrats and best wishes!!! @Kimzolciak has made me the happiest man alive!!! 11.11.11."

The nuptials were filmed — of course — for a new spin-off show. Guests had to agree to be filmed or they could not attend the wedding, according to reports.

The duo, who met at an Atlanta fundraiser in 2010, announced their engagement in October.

It's the second marriage for the reality star turned "Tardy for the Party" singer, who already has two daughters (Brielle, 14, and Ariana, 9) from previous relationships. This is the first wedding for the 25-year-old Atlanta Falcons defensive end.

Let's hope that this celebrity wedding will last longer than 72 days. But considering Zolciak and Biermann actually got the know each other before getting married, there's a good chance this one will last — for a few years, at least.

NeNe Leakes blood clots

NeNe Leakes blood clots
NeNe Leakes blood clots, NeNe Leakes hasn't been feeling up to par lately. In fact, the reality TV show diva tweeted a message Monday saying she was "blessed to be alive."

After an outpouring of concern, the 45-year-old "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star posted a statement of explanation on her website.

“Late last week I wasn’t feeling well and was feeling a little short of breath,” she wrote. “I know my body and I know shen I should be concerned so I went to the hospital to get checked out.”

“After some routine tests I was diagnosed with blood clots in my lung,” she continued. “I’m told this happened to me because of the constant traveling around the country that I do for my job.”

The worry first began after Leakes admitted to her 1.3 million Twitter followers that she had been feeling under the weather, although she didn't immediately indicate exactly why.

She did, however, post a photo of her dressed in a hospital gown and lying in what looked to be a hospital bed while hooked up to IV's.

"My arms are hurting wit these IV's," she tweeted Monday along with the snapshot.
On Nov. 17 she indicated how she'd been battling the ill blues for days.

"I have been very sick for the past couple of days," she tweeted along with a thank you to her devotees for watching the Bravo reality series. "But I wanted 2 Thank my tweetie pies."

Before she posted the statement detailing her health issues on Tuesday, one of the "Glee" actress’ online followers made a lucky guess about what was going on, which Leakes retweeted.

RT @maddoxmusic: @NeNeLeakes It's probably from exhaustion. She has the most grueling schedule of any celebrity," the fan wrote. Leakes then added, "I work my butt off."

“I’m thankful to be alive as the doctor advised me that most people don’t recognize the symptoms of blood clots and don’t go to the doctor and that’s when the big problems start happening,” she added on her site.
Leakes also dimissed previous reports that she’d suffered from a heart attack.

She also posted an additional photo with her adorable granddaughter offering support.
“I’m blessed to be home with my wonderful husband and family!” she concluded. “Look who crawled in the hospital bed with me.”

NeNe Leakes sued by wedding planner

NeNe Leakes sued by wedding planner
NeNe Leakes sued by wedding planner, Last month NeNe Leakes' purported wedding planner filed a lawsuit against her for non-payment, alleging that Ms. Leakes owes her $1 million dollars. Doing what all good reality stars do NeNe hopped on twitter to bash said planner, Tiffany Nieves-Cook by insisting that she never even planned her wedding, so how could she owe her a cent!

Well now that the trailer for I Dream Of NeNe has premiered and shows NeNe and Tiffany arguing, it's assured that in some capacity Tiffany worked on NeNe's wedding, despite NeNe's claim that Tony Conway was the sole planner responsible! Oh my…

In response, Tiffany is adding a Defamation of Character claim to her suit! Tiffany, who is already seeking $2.5 million in total damages, claims NeNe's comments damaged her business and have affected her livelihood and reputation. "When you Google my name right now, there are 300 pages saying I am a scam artist, among other things. Again, we [Tiffany Cook Events] deal with a high-profile clientele," Tiffany tells Rolling Out.

"She has 1.3 million [Twitter] followers. To say such negative things about me, it can only be devastating," Tiffany exclaims. "Generally, I am all over the Internet for the fantastic things that I do. It is absolutely devastating."

Tiffany maintains this is the only instance in which she has had such a negative experience with a client ("This is the first time in 25 years.") – and she insists that she had a signed contract with NeNe to plan the event.

Tiffany says she was blindsided when she was abruptly replaced, especially since she was referred to NeNe by former client Porsha Stewart. Tiffany planned her lavish nuptials to Kordell. "Porsha and I will always have a relationship," Tiffany says, adding that she is still "grateful" for the referral.

As for what caused the breakdown in her relationship with NeNe, Tiffany isn't sure. "I wasn’t aware that there was a tipping point or a breakdown," she recalls. "The only breakdown is that I continued communicating with them and there was a complete cease on her part with communication."

"Quite honestly, I just assumed, since many of my clients are in her type of business, that she was busy filming," she adds.

Interestingly, Tiffany  claims that Tony Conway was actually someone she brought to the event as a vendor so she is not sure how he ended up planning the affair! "Tony Conway was a client," Tiffany reveals. "He was actually the first vendor that I brought in to do her wedding while I was planning. I brought him in to do flowers and possibly for catering because of the fantastic relationship that we had."

"We can’t say what Tony Conway did or did not do," Tiffany's attorney Reginald Greene adds. "We’re going to prove what our client did do. Tiffany Cook certainly performed as agreed under the contract and she was contracted to be the wedding planner and [as the décor designer].”

"My client, Tiffany Cook, was contracted to plan the wedding and she performed as agreed under the contract," he adds. In light of NeNe's comments, Tiffany decided to amend her suit. \

"We filed an amended complaint to add claims for libel, defamation of character, invasion of privacy – false light, and punitive damages, specifically against NeNe Leakes, for [statements] that were directed at my client after the lawsuit was filed," Tiffany's attorney explained.

Tiffany says she simply wants the monies "to be paid for my services and clearly erase this damage this has caused."

"I want my life and my business back." She also says she is not doing this for publicity.

As for NeNe, Tiffany says she has received a response from her. NeNe announced on twitter her intentions to file counter-suit against Tiffany.

Here's what I think, NeNe was trying to drum up drama for her spinoff and a mid-wedding planning firing would just about do the trick! Unfortunately Tiffany got caught in the crossfire of a reality TV stunt.

NeNe Leakes wedding cost $1.8 million

NeNe Leakes wedding cost $1.8 million
NeNe Leakes wedding cost $1.8 million, We had a hunch that The Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes would spare no expense when she walked down the aisle a second time and married Gregg again, but we were shocked to learn just how much NeNe spent on the lavish nuptials.

According to Life & Style, the Leakes’ union cost a cool $1.8 million! While that figure may seem nearly impossible to reach, it doesn’t sound so crazy when you realize that NeNe’s second wedding dress alone set her back $20,000. Throw in a six-tier wedding cake, performances by Fantasia Barrino, and crystals hanging from the ceiling and suddenly 1.8 million seems like chump change.

And while we don’t know this for a fact, it’s very likely that Bravo picked up part of the tab for NeNe’s big day considering the entire shindig was filmed for her spin-off, I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding. If Bravo wants an over-the-top H’wives wedding, then they better foot part of the bill!

But even if Bravo didn’t pitch in, we don’t think “rich bitch” NeNe had any trouble paying for her special day. She’s reportedly getting paid $1 million for Season 6 of RHoA, and has plenty of income from her other endeavors.

Do you think $1.8 million is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a wedding? Sound off below!

Famous televised weddings

Famous televised weddings
Famous televised weddings, News that former "Real Housewives" star Michaele Salahi is planning a pay-per-view wedding got us thinking of other celebrities — from royals to reality stars — who took their weddings worldwide. While their dearly beloved gathered around the altar, couch potatoes gathered around their TV sets. See who said "I do" in front of a camera crew.

NeNe & Gregg Leakes

The larger-than-life "RHOA" and "Glee"cast member and her husband went through a nasty on-camera split back in 2010. Once reconciled, the pair filmed a wedding do-over for a Bravo spin-off show. What was the ceremony's rumored price tag?

Kim Zolciak & Kroy Biermann

Zolciak met her NFL defensive end husband  while filming "The Real Housewives of Atlanta." A year later, the couple welcomed a son, became pregnant with another and then set about planning a wedding. A bride-to-be special aired in June 2012, chronicling all the drama that led to her big day.

Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries

The Kardashians were used to sharing all the family's tiffs, trips and trivialities on their cable reality show, so it was only natural that Kim would keep the cameras rolling for her 2011 ceremony. E! ran a four-hour wedding special. Guests like Kathie Lee Gifford, Ryan Seacrest and Ciara  — all following a strict dress code — watched as Kim walked down the aisle toward her NBA-playing flame. Meanwhile, more than 4 million viewers watched at home.

Niecy Nash & Jay Tucker

Nash, of "Reno 911!" and "Clean House" fame, started dating her electrical engineer boyfriend in 2010. A year later, the actress  starred in her own TLC wedding-themed show, which filmed the ins and outs of her celebration. Sherri Shepherd and Holly Robinson-Peete rounded out a bridal party that knows its way around a camera.

Kate Middleton & Prince William

It seemed as though the entire planet watched the April 2011 nuptials of Great Britain's Duke of Cambridge. Prince William and Kate's ceremony  was reportedly broadcast in more than 180 countries and set a world record. How many viewers were there in the U.K. alone?

LaLa Vasquez & Carmelo Anthony

This former MTV VJ married her longtime NBA forward boyfriend  in July 2010. The couple's young son  was the ring bearer and A-listers such as Spike Lee, Justin Timberlake and LeBron James attended the event at this posh locale. All of the proceedings were filmed and packaged as a VH1 reality show.

Khloe Kardashian & Lamar Odom

Kim's younger sister beat her down the aisle when, in 2009, she married her B-baller beau after a one-month courtship. Their wedding was featured on the family's reality show and was a ratings boon for the E! network. Odom's then-teammate Kobe Bryant was on-hand for the Beverly Hills event, as were Kelly Osbourne and Chelsea Handler.

Kendra Wilkinson & Hank Baskett

Wilkinson — famous for a Hugh Hefner-centric reality series, as well as her own show — married this former wide receiver at the Playboy Mansion in June 2009. The ceremony was aired on "Kendra," an E! spin-off show.

Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt

The couple first entered the public eye on MTV's "The Hills" and they've tried their hardest to remain in focus ever since. Rumors swirled about everything from a fake elopement in 2008 to a more recent publicity stunt breakup. The pair  was filmed getting married in Southern California in April 2009.

Carmen Electra & Dave Navarro

Electra  has raised eyebrows since her "Baywatch" days, and her 2003 groom, Jane's Addiction guitarist Navarro, is no less risqué. On their MTV wedding countdown series, the couple flouted tradition by posing as corpses in a morgue for their invitations and having live parrots at their ceremony.

Trista Rehn & Ryan Sutter

Rehn was searching for love on the first season of "The Bachelorette" and found it with fellow contestant Sutter. Their December 2003 wedding was decked with 30,000 roses, not to mention camera crews and helicopters. Unlike many reality TV couples, they're still together after 10 years.

Prince Edward & Sophie Rhys-Jones

In June 1999, the queen of England's youngest child married Rhys-Jones, a PR exec, at this relatively low-key location. The couple eschewed much of the royal pomp and circumstance — Edward arrived at the chapel on foot and they kept the guest list tight . The couple even selected townsfolk at random and allowed them onto the grounds.

Sarah Ferguson & Prince Andrew

Prince Andrew and "Fergie" caused an international frenzy in July 1986 when they exchanged vows at Westminster Abby. The guest list included a rock icon and a member of American "royalty."How many viewers tuned in?

Lady Diana Spencer & Prince Charles

Three decades before their eldest son's wedding wowed international crowds, spectators  were glued to their sets watching the heir to Great Britain's throne marry Lady Diana. The 20-year-old bride arrived at St. Paul's Cathedral wearing a grandiose gown and a trend-setting engagement ring.

Princess Anne & Mark Phillips

In November 1973, a British royal married a commoner — for only the second time in more than 200 years. Queen Elizabeth II's only daughter bonded with this Army captain over a shared interest and they made it official at Westminster Abbey as millions watched. Later, the couple enjoyed a life-size wedding cake.

Tiny Tim & Miss Vicki

By the late '60s, the oddball musician  had become a regular on late-night talk shows and variety hours, strumming his ukulele and crooning his hit song. So what better place to marry his young bride than on "The Tonight Show"? The December 1969 spectacle came complete with Tiny Tim's signature flower.

Princess Margaret & Anthony Armstrong-Jones

When Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth's younger sister, donned these vaunted jewels and arrived at Westminster Abbey in the Glass Coach in 1960, she was starting a trend. Her ceremony was the first royal wedding to be broadcast on TV.

China's first lunar probe to land on the moon this weekend

China's first lunar probe to land on the moon this weekend
China's first lunar probe to land on the moon this weekend, China's first lunar rover is expected to land on the moon on Saturday, less than two weeks after it blasted off from Earth, according to Chinese media reports.

The landing will make China one of only three nations -- after the United States and the former Soviet Union -- to "soft-land" on the moon's surface, and the first to do so in more than three decades.

Chang'e-3, the unmanned spacecraft carrying the rover, is due to touch down on a lava plain named Sinus Iridum, or Bay of Rainbows, shortly after 3 p.m. GMT (10 a.m. ET) on December 14, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.
On landing, Chang'e-3 will release Jade Rabbit (called Yutu in Chinese) -- a six-wheeled lunar rover equipped with at least four cameras and two mechanical legs that can dig up soil samples to a depth of 30 meters.

The solar-powered rover will patrol the moon's surface, studying the structure of the lunar crust as well as soil and rocks, for at least three months.

The robot's name was decided by a public online poll and comes from a Chinese myth about the pet white rabbit of a goddess, Chang'e, who is said to live on the moon.

Chopsticks and soup spoons: Inspiration behind China's space tools

Weighing 140 kilograms, the slow-moving rover carries an optical telescope for astronomical observations and a powerful ultraviolet camera that will monitor how solar activity affects the various layers -- troposphere, stratosphere and ionosphere -- that make up the Earth's atmosphere, China's information technology ministry said in a statement.

The Jade Rabbit is also equipped with radioisotope heater units, allowing it to function during the cold lunar nights when temperatures plunge as low as -180°C (-292°F).

China has rapidly built up its space program since it first sent an astronaut into space in 2003. In 2012, the country conducted 18 space launches, according to the Pentagon.

The Chang'e-3 mission constitutes the second phase of China's moon exploration program, which includes orbiting, landing and returning to Earth.

In 2010, China captured images of the landing site for the 2013 probe, the Bay of Rainbows, which is considered to be one of the most picturesque parts of the moon.

Within the next decade, China expects to open a permanent space station in the Earth's orbit.
Timeline: China's race into space

But scientists in the United States have expressed concern that the Chang'e-3 mission could skew the results of a NASA study of the moon's dust environment. The spacecraft's descent is likely to create a noticeable plume on the moon's surface that could interfere with research already being carried out by NASA's Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE), Jeff Plescia, chair of NASA's Lunar Exploration Analysis Group told news site, Space.com in November.

The Chang'e-3 spacecraft blasted off from a Long March 3B rocket in China's Sichuan province on December 2, and reached the moon's orbit at 100 kilometers (about 60 miles) from its surface less than five days later.

On Tuesday, it descended into an elliptical orbit with its lowest point just 15 kilometers off the lunar surface, a spokesperson for China's Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense told Xinhua.

The Soviet Union's Luna 24 probe was the last space mission to land on the moon in August, 1976 -- four years after the United States launched the manned Apollo 17 mission.

JUST IN: Safari on Mac OS exposes web login credentials

JUST IN: Safari on Mac OS exposes web login credentials
JUST IN: Safari on Mac OS exposes web login credentials, Last month I posted my top 10 smartphones for the holiday season and wanted to look back through the entire year to see what other devices grabbed my attention.

As I was looking through the phones I have tried all year, some of my earlier opinions changed and in some cases phones that I ranked lower on my seasonal ratings have changed with extended usage.

We all have different opinions on what is the best, but I think most people will agree with the phones I selected even if they don't agree with the particular order of my rankings.

Number 1: HTC One
I frequently swap my SIM into different phones and it is rare for me to ever use a single phone for six months or more. Thus, I must rank the HTC One my top smartphone of the year and until about a month ago it was the best smartphone I have ever used.

The hardware is fantastic, HTC has done a great job updating the OS to the latest and greatest while also updating its Sense UI, you can pick it up in various colors, and it can be found for a good deal (as low as $50 with contract) with rumors of a successor launching in early 2014.

Number 2: Moto X

This is one phone that I had ranked lower in earlier articles, but after extended use it truly is the 'iPhone' of the Android world and Motorola has shown an unprecedented ability to update it to the latest Android OS within weeks of launch. I just recently customized my Moto X with my Twitter handle and preferred colors and it was the phone to finally steal the SIM from my HTC One.

The in-hand feel, high quality construction, excellent custom Motorola functions (active notifications, Moto Assist, and touchless controls), personalization options, and reasonable price for an unlocked device make the Moto X one of the top devices of the year.

It didn't launch as low as we expected it to and compete with the Nexus pricing scheme, but Motorola has dropped it $100 and also offered a couple of $150 specials. In my opinion, it is worth the full price and I encourage people not to be afraid of the specifications.

Number 3: Apple iPhone 5s

Every year Apple releases a new iPhone and the iPhone 5s is clearly the best iPhone released to date. The improved processor, camera, and fingerprint-enabled Touch ID make it a compelling smartphone.

As smartphone displays grow larger, it is nice to still have an extremely pocketable smartphone with the iPhone 5s. While Android gets most of the newest apps and services, iOS still has an advantage here as most companies release iOS apps first and that is why I need one in my collection.

Number 4: Google Nexus 5

LG's Nexus 5 was leaked well in advance of its release and it sold out quickly as soon as it appeared on Halloween. LG did a great job with the Nexus 5 and it is one of the best Android smartphones available today.

The Nexus 5 has the latest and greatest internal specifications, including a Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, 8 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, Qi wireless charging, and more.

Google has released a couple of software updates for the camera to improve its performance and it likely will continue to get updated and improved over time. I personally prefer the Moto X customizations and design, but the Nexus 5 is the next on my list of Android smartphones. It is available at a great price too.

Number 5: Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Samsung throws everything, but the kitchen sink, in the Galaxy Note 3 and I found the experience both rewarding and frustrating. It is an incredible device for the road warrior with a large replaceable battery, expandable storage, and a display that functions like a small tablet.

I found it to be too large for regular usage, but if you are a person who uses the S Pen then there is no other device that can beat the stylus experience. The improved Galaxy Gear and Note 3 make a great combo and I would still have them if there weren't so many other great devices competing for my attention.
