fear factor returning
fear factor returning. A softer version of "Fear Factor" is returning to NBC, six years after the gross-out reality show ended its run on the network. The show, in which contestants ate such things as worms and spiders in a bid to win $50,000, debuted in summer 2001 with host Joe Rogan. The series was pulled during its revamped sixth season in 2006 when it struggled in head-to-head competition with Fox's "American Idol."While the new version is still in the early stages, the intention is not to make the series extremely gross, sources said. A host for the reboot has not been named.
"Fear Factor," which was the first reality series to be syndicated, airs Saturday nights on NBCUniversal horror and suspense cable network Chiller. The show was based on the Dutch series "Now or Neverland."
