3 Dead, Others Wounded in Separate Pomona Shootings, Three people died and others were wounded in separate shootings Saturday evening and early Sunday in Pomona, authorities said.
The incidents occurred at four crime scenes in the city and did not appear to be connected, police said.
Jose Cerda, 45, of Pomona, was on his bicycle about 9:30 p.m. on Lexington Avenue, just west of Garey Avenue, according to Pomona Police Department officials. A vehicle drove alongside him and an occupant opened fire. Cerda was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two hours later, Isais Garcia Lopez, 24, of Ontario, and an 18-year-old man were walking down an alley in the 200 block of Orchid Lane when they were ambushed by “unknown suspects,” police said. Lopez died at the scene after being shot multiple times in the chest.
The teen, who was not identified, was also shot numerous times; he was able to escape and get help, police said. He was taken to airlifted to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery. Details of his condition were unclear Sunday.
Angel Bravo, 29, walked out of a house in the 1700 block of Benedict Way about 2:50 a.m., intending to go to a store, police detectives said. The father of four was standing near his vehicle, which was parked on the street, when another vehicle approached him.
Someone inside the second vehicle opened fire on Bravo with a handgun, police said. Bravo was shot “several” times in the upper torso.
The shooter fled the scene in what witnesses described as a “white compact vehicle.”
“I was in bed and I heard two shots,” Reanne Sanchez, Bravo’s neighbor, said. “I immediately jumped up to check on my daughter, and then I heard about four more shots. I could hear some screaming, so I came out here to see what was going on, and that’s when I saw my neighbor on the floor. It didn’t look like he was doing too well.”
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel pronounced Bravo dead at the scene.
All of the shooters were at large Sunday evening, police said.
