Jon Baldwin-A.J. Jenkins trade: Reactions from Chiefs, 49ers and others, 49ers GM Trent Baalke: "We would like to thank A.J. for his efforts as a member of the 49ers and wish him all the best with the Kansas City Chief. We are pleased to add Jonathan to our team and look forward to incorporating him into our offense. Both players have been presented a great opportunity for a new beginning with their respective teams."
Chiefs GM Jon Dorsey: "We felt like this trade was beneficial for all parties involved. A.J. is a talented individual with a skillset that we feel can add value to our football team. Jon Baldwin is a hardworking player and a professional. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward."
Kansas City Star, Adam Teicher: The Chiefs were equally as frustrated with Baldwin. He dropped numerous passes in training camp and a couple in preseason games. Coach Andy Reid sounded an ominous note for Baldwin on Saturday, saying, "I can tell you that when given the opportunity in this league, you’d better catch the football.’’
NFL.com, Gregg Rosenthal: It's amazing how far Jenkins fell in San Francisco since being drafted in 2012. There were open questions about whether or not Jenkins would even make the 53-man roster ... But seeing the Chiefs give up on Baldwin is even more surprising ... Unlike Jenkins, though, Baldwin at least produced something at the pro level.
Mercury News, Tim Kawakami: Zero catches. There is no spin for that stat, no way to marginalize the error the 49ers made when they selected WR A.J. Jenkins with the 30th pick overall in last year’s draft. A reach. A bust. A bad mark on GM Trent Baalke’s otherwise glittery draft record, a bad mark on the 49ers’ entire draft process, with whatever input came from Jim Harbaugh and everybody else.
Rotoworld: Jenkins' lone target came in Week 17. He has zero career receptions. The 49ers ran out of patience with last year's No. 30 pick after Jenkins showed absolutely nothing through two preseason games, fumbling away his only catch.
