Emergency services found the body of a man with a gunshot wound to the head at the Grease actress' home near Palm Beach on Monday, while Newton-John and her husband John Easterling were out of town.
Local police said the dead man was not related to Newton-John or her husband, and officers have now told local media that he was a contractor working on the property.
In a statement, Newton-John said she was "in shock" over the death of 41-year-old Christopher Pariseleti - owner of Pariseleti Construction - which officials have said was suicide.
Construction workers were seen crying after the shooting at the £13.5 million mansion, which is reportedly up for sale.
Neighbours said neither Newton-John or Easterling had been seen at the four-bedroom property for some time.
