Richard Gere banned from Oscars anti China comments

Richard Gere banned from Oscars anti China comments, Richard Gere was banned from presenting in the Oscars for around 20 years (although they never said he was banned and he did accept an award in 2003) after he used the podium to aire some Political beliefs against the USA’s bested buddies China.

However in 2013 it seems his ban was kind of forgotten and he returned to perform on stage for a reunion with Chicago co-stars, a film that won best picture around 10 years ago.

So what did Richard Gere do to get shunned by the Hollywood giants that give out the golden statues? Well people remember a little film called Seven Years in Tibet, one that helped give a certain Brad Pitt a leg up in the fame ladder?

Well Richard and Brad both are huge Tibet sympathisers, in fact both are permanently banned from China.

In 1993 when he was supposed to be presenting he used a short amount of time to ask for support for human rights campaigns in China. Of course this didn’t go down too well.

Oddly I can’t find a video of the incident but Gere has not stopped his Tibetan support over the years and is a true activist.
