Clint Eastwood U.S. Army, Clint Eastwood was drafted into the Army at the start of the Korean War. He completed basic training at Fort Ord in California and stayed at the base as a swimming instructor.

He was stationed stateside for the duration of the war, though his survival was tested when a plane he was on crashed in the ocean while he and the pilot were forced to swim a mile to shore in the frigid Pacific Ocean.

After his discharge in 1953, Eastwood studied drama at L.A. City College under the GI Bill. His $75-per-week contract through Universal Studios kick started his illustrious career in film.
