Costco Bibles controversy: Costco lists Bible as fiction, issues apology, Costco Bibles listed as fiction have stirred up quite the controversy. The Costco Bibles in Simi Valley were labeled as fiction on store shelves and the pastor of a local church was the one who saw it and got social media into it. According to a report from late Wednesday (Nov. 20), Caleb Kaltenbach, who is the pastor of the Discovery Church in Simi Valley, came across the books while on a shopping trip.

Kaltenbach took a picture and posted it to Twitter, shedding some very negative light on the store, but also creating a lot of online debate. There are plenty of people who were ready to attack the store for its choice of labeling, but many people were also coming out in support of what they had done. Either way, it caused executives to issue a response in order to try to quell the controversy before it got out of hand.

The store issued an apology and stated that the fiction tag would be removed from all Costco Bibles. They also stated that, "Our CEO, he's a devout Catholic. He obviously loves the Lord. This isn't something that he is purposely trying to do. It was a mistake."

At last report, there are no longer any versions of the book on store shelves with the old labels, potentially putting an end to this controversy.
