“The Drew Carey Show,” on ABC. His richly deserved place in the spotlight came after more than a decade-long struggle which even saw him waiting on tables and living in his car in pursuit of his dreams. Carey would go on to leverage the success of his show to produce one of TV’s greatest ever comedic shows, “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”
In 2007, Carey secured his spot in TV history when he replaced the iconic Bob Barker as the host of “The Price Is Right,” the longest running game show in television.
With his trademark wide-rimmed glasses and 50s-style buzz cut, Carey is far from your stereotypical libertarian cutout. In fact, he goes beyond the typical Hollywood celebrity-activists mold, in that, his involvement in the cause is not limited to fundraisers and campaign ads.
Instead, Mr. Carey is a libertarian evangelist, and at one time, even helmed "The Drew Carey Project" on Reason.tv, under the banner of the libertarian think tank, Reason Foundation, where he spoke about social issues, marijuana decriminalization and privatization of public roads.
Reportedly, there have been several attempts to get him to contest the Ohio Senate seat, though all ended unsuccessfully. While it is unlikely that Mr. Carey would throw his hat in the ring for the 2016 presidential election, stranger things have happened.
“If you’re a libertarian, every election you’re sad. Every election, if you’re a libertarian, you’re going to feel like you were playing Monopoly and you got up to go to the bathroom for five minutes. And when you came back, everybody made a trade and ****ed you out of the game.”
