mcstay kids bones found in shallow grave

mcstay kids bones found in shallow grave, mcstay kids Two children from a Fallbrook family missing since 2010 were identified Friday after their bones were discovered with their parents in a shallow grave north of Victorville.

San Bernardino County coroner’s officials identified the remains of 4-year-old Gianni McStay and 3-year-old Joseph McStay Jr.  through DNA submitted to the state Department of Justice crime lab.

The two boys were found in one of two shallow graves last week in the remote desert off Interstate 15, west of Apple Valley. Also in the graves were the skeletal remains of their parents Joseph and Summer McStay.

The family disappeared mysteriously in February 2010 from their Fallbrook home. Investigators found the home in disarray, with rotting found left on the counter and the boys’ popcorn bowls left in front of the TV.

An off-road rider found the family’s bones in the desert on Veteran’s Day, once they had been uncovered by animals. A sheriff’s excavation showed the twin graves – each one to two-feet deep with the skeletal remains of the family of four.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials are investigating the family’s homicide and have not announced a cause of death. Coroner’s officials identified the parents through dental records last week.

Authorities have yet to give a motive or any answers as to what led to the family’s demise. As recently as April, the family was thought to have gone to Mexico voluntarily and disappeared without notice.

The family’s SUV was found near the San Yasidro border crossing four days after they disappeared and video footage showed a family of four crossing the border, but family members never confirmed it was the McStay family.

San Bernardino sheriff homicide detectives are leading the investigation with the FBI and the San Diego County sheriff’s department.
