Beats Music streaming service to launch in January
Beats Music streaming service to launch in January, Beats Music, the digital music spin-off from the maker of Beats by Dr Dre headphones, is launching its streaming service in January.

Although no details of the business model were revealed, it is likely it will compete with subscription services like Spotify, Rhapsody and Rdio.

Ian Rogers, CEO, announced the launch date in a blog post. Originally, Beats Music was to be launched in 2013.

Beats Music is based on the platform of MOG, an existing subscription service.

MOG costs $10 (£6.10) a month for access to more than 15 million tracks on mobile devices or $5 (£3.10) a month for ad-free listening on computers.

Existing MOG subscribers were sent emails on Wednesday encouraging them to get usernames on BeatsMusic.com.

MOG was bought in July 2012 by Beats Electronics LLC, the company founded in 2008 by music producer Dr Dre and executive Jimmy Iovine.

Beats Music became a stand-alone company in March after a $60 million (£36.6m) investment led by Access Industries, which also bought Warner Music Group Corp in June 2011.

Earlier this year Dr Dre was named hip-hop's third highest earner by Forbes magazine.
