Boeing 777 landing birmingham, A passenger on a plane almost landed sideways as ferocious winds hit the UK said: “I am never flying again”.
Kevon Miller, 28, was aboard the Emirates flight from Dubai which tried in vain to land at Birmingham Airport in 60mph gusts.
The Boeing 777 hovered above the runway at a crazy angle but could not make it down, despite its wheels coming within inches of the ground, and was diverted to Gatwick instead.
The footage, captured on video by David Goodship, was among the most dramatic incidents on a day when gales lashed Britain, causing deaths, crippling transport networks and forcing thousands to flee their homes.
Kevon, an accounts assistant, described the plane as “shaking” and “bobbing from side to side” as it as it dropped out of the clouds on the approach to the airport and said at least one passenger was physically sick as the drama unfolded.
He told the Birmingham Mail: “As we came towards the city, the plane was shaking on the way down.
"We could see from the in-flight monitors that the plane was drifting to the left as we were landing.”
Kevon was returning from a three-week holiday in Australia with his girlfriend Laura Gibbons via Dubai.
“The first time it tried to land, the pilot got quite close to the runway but didn’t manage it. We then went round again but couldn’t get down quite as low.
“We landed at Gatwick and refuelled. Nobody got off the plane and people were getting quite restless at having to wait, but we were told that the winds in Birmingham had died down and five other planes had managed to land.”
The plane eventually returned to land at Birmingham International around 3.30pm after conditions had improved.
One woman was sick but generally everyone else was OK. It’s just one of these things – we couldn’t really control the weather.”
"Never getting on a plane again', Kevon added on Twitter before posting “Full on wanted to cry".
A Brussels Airlines Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 flight also struggled to land in Birmingham, with video showing it blowing from side to side before it finally reached the ground.
