Princess Diana's companion Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul

Princess Diana's companion Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul, The family of Princess Diana's driver have welcomed a police probe into new information claiming the SAS was involved in their deaths.

Henri Paul was driving Diana's Mercedes when it smashed into a pillar in a Paris tunnel in 1997. Both were killed as well as passenger Dodi Fayed.

Paul’s mother, Gisele, told the Daily Mail: “We believe there was a plot to kill the princess that terrible night in August 1997.’’

The 83-year-old added: “We know in our hearts that our son was murdered, and we still live with the hope that one day the truth will be known."

The family of Diana’s companion, Dodi Fayed, also believe that there was a murder plot.

His father said that he hopes that police will investigate “with vigor" the sensational claim that the SAS was involved in the deaths of Princess Diana and his son.

An inquest in 2008 found that Princess Diana and Al Fayed were unlawfully killed due to the "gross negligence" of Paul, a security manager at the Paris Ritz Hotel, who had been drinking.

Officials are now looking into the claim that a secretive military unit “arranged’’ the fatal accident.

Alan Power, author of the Princess Diana Conspiracy, believes that an intelligence unit called The Increment caused the crash by shining a strobe light into Paul’s eyes from another vehicle in the tunnel.

He said the murder was to stop Diana from revealing embarrassing sexual details about Prince Charles.
