Turkish president: Muslims must solve Syria crisis, President Abdullah Gul of Turkey Thursday called on Muslim countries to take on more responsibility in solving the crisis in Syria.
"If we do not come up with solutions for the problems of the Islamic world, others will impose their own solutions. Putting our house in order is our responsibility before everyone else," Today's Zaman quoted the Turkish president saying in the opening speech of the Organization of Islamic Conference Standing Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation in Istanbul.
Members of the world's biggest Islamic political bloc must bear more responsibility in solving the crisis in Syria, he said.
Gul also blamed terrorism in the name of Islam for soiling the faith's image in the world, which has led to Islamophobia. He called on Muslim countries to intensify efforts to fight against prejudice against the Muslim religion, Hurriyet Daily News reported.
