Dog needs new home after being beaten nearly to death

Dog needs new home after being beaten nearly to death, A good Samaritan saves a dog from an attack. Now the pooch needs a new home.

“Frank” is your typical playful pooch. But he's been through a lot. Shelter workers nicknamed him Frank, short for ‘Frankenstein’, which is what he looked like just a week and a half ago after he'd been beaten within an inch of his life.

"He had an open gouge of a wound to the point where you could almost see his skull," recalls animal control officer Paul Schmidt. "He had several open wounds along the right side of his face, including part of his jowls."

Schmidt is the animal control officer who responded to the call. It wasn't a pack of wolves, it wasn't a bad accident; it was a mob armed with bricks, sticks, and rocks. Someone passing by saw the attack near North 25th Street and West Center Street in Milwaukee and wouldn't stand for it. She pulled her car over, opened the door, called for the dog, and he came running.

Frank still has some healing to do, but he's getting the care he needs and is well on the road to recovery. All thanks to a stranger who stopped to do the right thing.

"It feels awesome," says Schmidt. "It's always great to have an animal we pick up that we don't know who the owner is to get out of here and go have a new wonderful forever home."

Frank is a high energy dog who needs a lot of exercise. If you'd like to adopt Frank, he heads to a rescue facility in Milwaukee called "Canine Cupids" on Thursday. You can give them a call.
